Komen Game III

Over the past two seasons, Austin College and Centre College Men's Soccer programs have combined to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research on behalf of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. We have combined to raise over $12,000 the past two years.

This year, our cause will continue with the game being played on Friday October 2 at 6:00pm in Danville, KY.

This is a special thing that both programs do. Breast Cancer is something that will affect each and everyone of us directly or indirectly in our lifetimes.

For the next 10 days, the boys here at AC will work with everyone they can to raise money and attempted to beat Centre in total money raised. Below is a link that will take you to a PDF file that outlines the history of the game and where and how money can be donated. Any amount is a special gift and all donations can be deemed tax deductable. Checks will recieve a receipt from Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

I encourage you to spread the word on this cause as we look to beat Centre on and off the field!

AC 1 - Southwestern 2

After playing in an unfamiliar stadium, the team was glad to be back on our home field. Despite the field conditions, we were ready to play.

We came out at the start of the game strong and created several chances. The pace of the game settled down after the initial few minutes as both teams get into their groove. Southwestern would be the first to get on the board. A ball directly from a corner kick found its way into the back of the net to make the score 1-0. Neither team would score again in the first half.

At half time we talked about the good and bad of the first half and looked to take it to Southwestern from the very beginning of the second half. The boys came out hard and created some great chances to score. Finally, we would get our equalizer thanks to a combined effort from forwards Sam Temple (Paris, TX) and Chris Melton (Sherman, TX). Both Sam and Chris went up to challenge Southwestern's goalkeeper for a ball near the goal and managed to overpower the goalie and put the ball in the back of the net to make the score 1-1. The game continued to be a back and forth struggle for the rest off the half. With less than 20 minutes to play, Southwestern would take the lead again off a corner kick. The boys pushed hard to even the score, but the game would ultimately end 2-1. A tough loss for the team, but we hope to build off of the game and continue to fix our mistakes.

Next weekend we take a break from conference play. We are set to play Texas Lutheran University on Sunday at 2 P.M. Thanks again to all of the fans that came out to cheer the team on. The guys really appreciate all the support. GO ROOS!

AC 0 -Trinity 3

Trinity came into the game ranked #12 nationally, but the boys were looking forward to the challenge. Due to inclement weather throughout the week, we were forced to play the game at Denison High School's stadium.

The game started off quickly. We knew going into the game that we would be defending more than we were attacking, and did a good job of it for most of the first half. Chris Melton (Sherman, TX) and Sam Temple (Paris, TX) did a great job of working all over the field. In the 29th minute, though, Trinity would take the lead off of a corner kick. Four minutes later, a mishap on our part would allow Trinity to increase their lead to 2. The score would stay that way for the remainder of the half.

Even though we were down, the team still felt good about our chances. Several times in the second half, we looked and played like the better team. Unfortunately, we never found the back of the net. Trinity would score their third goal very late in the half when we were pressing to try and get a goal.

Despite the loss, the boys did a lot of good things. We fought hard against a quality team. Thanks to everyone who made the extra drive to the stadium to show their support for the team. GO ROOS!

Trinity Game Relocated

Weather Forces Game Relocation for ’Roo Soccer


SHERMAN, Texas – Due to the weather that has hit the Texoma area over the past week, it has been decided that the Austin College men’s and women’s soccer games against Trinity University previously scheduled to be played at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18 on the Austin College campus will be played at Denison High School’s Munson Stadium.

Game today has been cancelled due to rain/field conditions. The game is looking to be rescheduled.
