AC 1 - UMHB 2 OT

First off, thanks to all the fans who weathered the storm to watch us play. It was awesome to still have people to support the team in some less than perfect weather.

UMHB is a good team that has already turned some heads this season when they beat Trinity University in their opening game of the season. The team was looking forward to the challenge. The boys played very well, but ultimately it was decisions that made the difference between a win and a loss for us.

The first half was a back and forth struggle for both the teams. We created a few opportunities to take the lead but couldn't convert. UMHB also had a few chances but Grant Gosselin (Phoenix, AZ) kept them at bay. We would go into the half tied 0-0.

The second half started out the same way as the first half. Both teams created some chances. In the 65th minute, UMHB would take the lead off a penalty kick. The boys fought back hard and would tie the game up 10 minutes later. Alex Dawson (Spring, TX) would take the ball in the middle of the field and fire a left footed shot on goal. The goalie for UMHB fumbled the shot and Luis Castillo (Kingwood, TX) would pound home the rebound. The second half would finish tied at 1-1.

We regrouped before the overtime periods started and felt good about our chances. Both teams played defensive for the first few minutes of overtime and no real chances were created. With just over 2 minutes to go in the first overtime, UMHB capitalized on a defensive mistake on our part and scored the game winner. A tough way to lose, especially in overtime.

The team is looking forward to starting conference next week. We will play Trinity University on Friday and then play Southwestern University on the following Sunday. Please come out and support the team as we look to start off conference on the right foot. GO ROOS!
