After our win on Friday we slept in and then travelled to Memphis. Saturday night we took the guys out to Beale St. for dinner and to walk around the downtown area. On Sunday morning we took our normal walk and got focused for the game against Rhodes.
Like the game against Hendrix, AC started out the first half very well. Just four minutes into the game, Luis Castillo (Kingwood, TX) would cross the ball to Sam Temple (Paris, TX) who chested the ball into the net to give AC the early lead. Rhodes would respond though shortly after off a cross to the back post to level the score. Despite the let down defensively, the guys still continued to push and were rewarded when Luis Castillo (Kingwood, TX) scored a headed ball off a service from Alex Dawson (Spring, TX). However, another defensive lapse allowed Rhodes to even the score again just before halftime. We would end the half tied 2-2.
At halftime we were very pleased with our play offensively, but were disappointed that we didn't do a better job defensively and knew that we allowed them to get back into the game.
From the very first whistle of the second half, Rhodes dominated the game. We came out on our heels early and never seemed to recover. Halfway through the second half, Rhodes would take the lead. The guys pushed to try and get the tying goal, but came up short in the end. We would go on to lose the game 3-2.
After the game the team was disappointed that we had lost. We felt like the game was our and we let it slip away. Despite the loss, the guys have been playing some great soccer over the past few weeks. It was our first loss in our last seven games. Now we start preparing for the last weekend of the year. We will travel to Millsaps and Birmingham Southern to play two quality teams. Thanks to the fans that made it to support the guys. GO ROOS!
