AC 4 - Millsaps 0

Ok, to start, I apologize for the delay in getting this posted! Should have been done much sooner, but it's been a crazy week wrapping everything up.

We left for Jackson, MS on Thursday afternoon arriving late evening. The game wasn't scheduled until 6:00pm on Friday, so it allowed us to sleep in a bit. After breakfast we headed over to the field for a light stretch and kick around. We discussed what was ahead of us that weekend. The game that night was crucial in putting us in a decent position to finish conference. The loss to Rhodes hurt us, so we had to have the 3 points. Finishing the season on a positive note would be important heading into the offseason.

The game was what we expected with Millsaps playing a very disciplined defensive system. We had talked about needing to be patient in our attack, and find the penetrating pass. We did that and in the 22nd minute Alex Dawson(Spring, TX) found first year forward Chris Melton(Sherman, TX) for his team leading 6th goal of the season. The score would stay at 1-0 heading into halftime.

One thing that this team has had a difficult time doing is starting second halves appropriately. The break just does not suit us...and Friday would be no different. Millsaps came out in a hurry and really put us under. They had a great opportunity to equalize off a header the hit crossbar. We persevered however, and Chris Melton would return the favor to Dawson and assist Alex on a great goal that beat the keeper in the upper left corner. 2-0.

Millsaps would be awarded a PK minutes later, but would miss wide right. It was at this point that I knew the game was in our favor. The officiating was questionable both ways, but after the miss, I felt we could gain control. And we did. Guillermo Allande(El Paso, TX) would recieve a double assist from Johnny Lara(El Paso, TX) and Jason Campbell(Kingston, Jamaica) and beat the keeper for his first career goal. Luis Castillo(Kingwood, TX) would then get a double assist from Allande and Campbell for the final tally of the game. 4-0. A solid win and a great result to get us to 12 points in conference. The boys have really put it together the last half of the season and now all we had to do is finish with Birmingham Southern on Sunday.
